BGB press briefing to ensure election security in Gopalganj
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has made extensive security preparations in the southwest region for the upcoming 13th National Parliament Election and Referendum-2026 to be held on February 12.
In a press briefing at around 11 am on Wednesday (February 4), Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. Saifullah Siddiqui said that 183 platoon BGB members have been deployed to ensure a fair and peaceful environment.
It was informed at the press conference held in Gopalganj that the BGB will perform election duties in 62 parliamentary constituencies in 108 upazilas of 18 districts of the southwest region. The soldiers will work as mobile and striking forces from 93 temporary base camps for the purpose of fair elections.
In particular, the Jessore Battalion (49 BGB) has deployed 31 platoon members in 11 parliamentary constituencies in 3 districts under its jurisdiction. Out of this, 8 platoons of BGB members have been deployed in Gopalganj district itself.
In a written statement, he also said, “We are deploying more than 37,000 BGB members across the country on election duty while keeping the 4,427-kilometer border of the country secure. Drones, body-worn cameras and specialized K-9 dog squads will be ready at all times to avoid any kind of chaos.”
The press conference was also informed that in addition to conducting ‘robust patrol’ in coordination with the army and police, the Quick Response Force (QRF) and Rapid Action Team (RAB) along with helicopters are always ready to deal with emergency situations. The region and battalion commander said that the main goal of the BGB is to ensure the trust and security of the people.
