Pickup with Yaba seized in Ramu, driver arrested
A pickup with 10,000 pieces of Yaba tablets has been seized in a drive by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. The driver of the pickup was arrested at that time.
BGB sources said that on Tuesday (February 3) at approximately 12:10 am, a patrol team of Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) conducted a search in the Morcha check post area based on a secret tip-off.
At that time, a suspicious pickup vehicle was stopped and the driver’s behavior seemed suspicious. Later, the vehicle was searched and 10,000 pieces of Yaba were recovered in a specially hidden state. The name of the arrested driver is Md. Rifat (25). He is a resident of Khodai Bari area of Eidgaon upazila. His father’s name is Chaber Ahmed.
The BGB said that the estimated market value of the seized yaba is 3 million taka. In addition, the value of the seized pickup truck is about 21 million taka and the value of a mobile phone is about 20 thousand taka. In total, the total value of the seized goods is 51 lakh 20 thousand taka. During the interrogation of the BGB, the detainee said that Ahidul Alam (35) of Shaplapur area of Teknaf is involved in yaba smuggling.
The BGB said that the matter is being investigated. Ramu Battalion (30 BGB) authorities said that preparations are underway to hand over the detainee and the seized goods to Ramu Police Station to complete the legal process. The BGB also said that anti-drug operations have been intensified and such operations will continue in the border areas.
