The Bangladesh Army and Police have tightened security in Kacchapia Union of Ramu Upazila of Cox’s Bazar ahead of the upcoming 12th National Parliament elections. As part of this, an identified drug smuggler along with drugs was arrested in a joint force raid conducted at a temporary check post at Dakbanglo intersection of Kacchapia Union.

On Monday morning, January 26, the joint force comprising the Bangladesh Army and Gorjania Police Outpost conducted a regular search at the check post. At that time, Nurul Abshar of Notun Titar Para area of Kacchapia Union was arrested as a suspect. Later, a responsible source of the joint force confirmed that drugs were recovered from him.

Strict stance ahead of the elections According to election-related security analysts, drug trafficking and smuggling rings become active before the elections. These gangs provide money to fuel various criminal activities. Considering this, joint patrols and check posts have been set up by the army and police at important points in Garjania, Kachhpia, Naikshongchhari and Ramu.

According to several local sources, some areas of Garjania, Kachhpia and Eidgad unions have been used as transit points for drug transportation for a long time. However, the recent activities of the joint forces have limited the movement of drug dealers in those areas.

People are feeling relieved. Traders and pedestrians in the Dak Bungalow intersection area, near the Garjania police outpost, said that earlier they were afraid to move around in this area after evening. Now they feel relieved with the regular presence of the army and police.

Local resident Mohammad Hossain said, “We feel safe with the army in the field ahead of the elections. If drugs and terrorism stop, the elections will also be peaceful.”

A source in the joint force said, “Such operations will continue to combat terrorism, drugs and smuggling to make the upcoming January 12 parliamentary elections fair, peaceful and festive. No one will be spared.”

According to analysts, this operation by the joint force in Garjania and Kachchhpia is not just an isolated incident, but part of a larger strategy to ensure electoral security. If this continues, conscious circles believe that drug and terrorist activities in the area will significantly decrease.
