Case of abetment to suicide in Netrakona over contractor Fazlur Rahman’s death
A case of abetment to suicide in Netrakona over the death of district first class contractor Fazlur Rahman has been filed on charges of abetment to suicide. On Wednesday night (January 22), his wife, Mosa Tahira Halim, filed a complaint with Netrokona Model Police Station.
According to the complaint, four people, including Asim Kumar Singh, have been named as defendants in the case. All the defendants are residents of Netrakona district. The case states that Fazlur Rahman had been doing contracting business jointly with the defendants for a long time.
However, despite owing an estimated one crore and fifty lakh taka, it was not paid. As a result, he and his family fell into financial crisis and suffered a mental breakdown. On the afternoon of January 19, the day of the incident, Fazlur Rahman went to the defendants’ chamber to collect the money owed.
As he could not be contacted in the evening, it was later learned that he had died hanging inside the chamber. The police recovered the body, prepared a post-mortem report and sent it to the Netrakona Modern Sadar Hospital morgue for an autopsy.
The plaintiff alleged that the defendants had put her husband under mental stress by not paying the dues for a long time, which led to his suicide. The District Contractors Association demanded that the incident be investigated and the main culprit brought to justice.
Netrakona Model Police Station Police Inspector (Investigation) Champak Dam said, “We went to the spot after receiving the news, and after preparing the body, an autopsy was conducted to determine the real cause of death.
A regular case has been registered based on the plaintiff’s complaint. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused and a thorough investigation into the incident is ongoing.”
