Accused in 6 cases beaten to death in Noakhali
Mizanur Rahman alias Roni (35), accused in six cases, was beaten to death in public in Kabirhat upazila of Noakhali. After the incident, a group of youths distributed sweets in the market, calling the deceased a robber, which created a lot of discussion in the area.
The incident took place on Saturday (January 17) at around 10 pm on the road in front of the Kazi house adjacent to Kalirhat Bazar in Ward No. 2 of Narottampur Union of the upazila. The deceased Mizanur Rahman is the son of Md. Shahid of Jaindpur area of Kabirhat Municipality. He was the father of two children.
According to police and local sources, there are at least six cases against Mizanur Rahman, including one robbery, two thefts, one weapons case and an attack on a government employee. An election meeting of Ward No. 2 BNP was going on in Kalirhat Bazar around 8 pm on Saturday.
At that time, Mizan appeared there and claimed to be a party defector and got into an argument with the leaders and workers present at the meeting. When the situation heated up, he was chased and left.
Later, he was arrested in front of the Kazi house north of Kalibazar and some people beat him indiscriminately on the face and head with sticks and iron pipes, causing serious injuries. He died on the spot. Later, the body was left on the road.
Some local residents claimed that the deceased Mizan had been accused of extortion and harassing the common people for a long time. Upon receiving the information, the police went to the spot, recovered the body and prepared a coffin.
At that time, a blood-stained stick and an iron pipe were recovered from the scene. A toy pistol and a tip were recovered from the deceased’s pocket.

When Mizan came there, there was an argument. Later, he left from there. Later, I heard who or what killed him and threw his body on the road. I do not know about the distribution of sweets.
Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan said, “I went to the spot after receiving the news that a robber was killed in a mob beating. A forensic report has been prepared at the spot.
A toy pistol and a tip knife have been recovered from the deceased’s pocket. The deceased’s family has not yet made any specific complaint.
However, legal action will be taken subject to investigation if a complaint is received. The body will be sent to the 250-bed Noakhali General Hospital morgue for an autopsy on Sunday morning.
