The contractor disappears after completing 75 percent of the work, and thousands of people have been suffering for the remaining 25 percent for a year and a half—this is a picture of the nearly 2-kilometer connection road from Gorjania Bazar in Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar to the steel bridge adjacent to the Naikshongchhari BGB School.

The mysterious disappearance of contractor Asadullah and the long silence of the supervisory agency Ramu Upazila LGED—all together raise questions about the possible link of corruption surrounding the project. January 17, 2026.

Almost a year and six months have passed since the work stopped. However, during this time, the progress of the project is zero.

Has the money for the work been withdrawn in advance? Locals allege that within a few days of starting the work, the contractor used low-quality materials in the name of completing the work quickly. Then he suddenly stopped working and left the area.

People from several villages, students and businessmen travel on this road every day. The dust on the broken road is increasing their breathing difficulties, making it risky for pregnant women and the elderly to travel.

But this real picture of public suffering does not seem to be getting importance from the administration. A local businessman said, “No one sees our suffering. Where did the money for this project go—that is the big mystery.”

Administrative silence is raising suspicion although work has been stopped for a long time, no investigation committee has been formed, no audit or public explanation has been given about the current status of the project.

This raises questions about the role of LGED- Is this just negligence or planned inaction? No development without accountability
According to conscious citizens, it is important to investigate the role of not only the contractor Asadullah, but also the officials involved in project supervision in this incident.

If there is no prompt independent investigation, disclosure of bill payment information and resumption of work, the matter will be identified as an example of major administrative corruption. Such projects in the name of development are not only eroding state funds but also public trust.
