Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has intensified its anti-drug operation at the border. In continuation of this, Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) recovered 40 thousand pieces of yaba tablets in a special operation conducted in the Naf River border area in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.

BGB sources said that as part of the country’s border security and implementation of the ‘zero tolerance’ policy against drugs, a special operation was conducted in the area under the responsibility of Nazirpara BOP in Teknaf upazila on the early morning of January 17, 2026.

During the operation, the yaba was recovered from an area called Narikelkathi, approximately 500 yards southeast of BRM-6 of Nazirpara BOP and about 2 kilometers northeast of the BOP, inside Bangladesh.

Based on the intelligence information received, it is known that a large consignment of Yaba from Myanmar will try to enter the country through the Nazirpara border.

Based on the information, the decision to conduct the operation was taken under the planning and leadership of 2 BGB Commander Lt. Col. Md. Hanifur Rahman, SPP, AFWC, PSC.

During the operation, at around 4 am, BGB members took a strategic position in the bushes of Keora Bagan. At that time, a suspicious person was seen moving towards Keora Bagan along the banks of the Naf River with a fish pot in his hand. When the BGB members gave chase, the suspect abandoned the bag and fled inside Keora Bagan.

Later, after searching the abandoned bag, 40 thousand pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered hidden in 4 specially wrapped packets at around 7:10 am. The BGB said that efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the escaped drug dealer. In this regard, Teknaf Battalion Commander Lt. Col. Md. Hanifur Rahman said, “This successful operation once again proves that BGB is steadfast in its ‘zero tolerance’ policy to protect the country’s security and future generations.

2 BGB operations will be further strengthened to protect every inch of the border and prevent drug smuggling.”
