‘If society treats women returning from abroad in a positive and responsible manner, it will be easier for them to turn around. Therefore, to ensure the safety, respect and welfare of migrant and returning women, it is necessary to ensure the transparency and accountability of recruitment agencies.

Madaripur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Jahangir Alam made this comment.

He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a skill development workshop organized by the ‘Pratyasha-2’ project jointly funded by the European Union and BRAC at the meeting room of the Madaripur Legal Aid Association office on Monday (January 12).

This workshop was organized to increase the awareness and skills of the stakeholders concerned in protecting the rights of migrant women and child migrants. In his speech as the chief guest, the Deputy Commissioner of the migration-prone district of Madaripur also said, “We are committed to providing legal services to the affected returnees.

If female returnees have a positive attitude towards society and behave responsibly, they will be able to turn around on their own and contribute to the development of the country. In addition, I hope that if social awareness increases, it will also play a big role in preventing child trafficking.

Additional Superintendent of Police of Madaripur district Jahangir Alam was present as a special guest at the event organized under the chairmanship of BRAC District Coordinator Mitu Rani Debnath.

At this time, he said, “You should go abroad by following the rules and acquiring skills, without being tempted by greed or the sweet words of brokers. You should keep proof of all kinds of financial transactions that have taken place while going abroad.

Because in cases of human trafficking and fraud, it is not enough to just file a case, we have to ensure that the fraudsters do not get away with it due to lack of proper evidence and witnesses.

Also present at the workshop were Sharmin Shahin, Deputy Director of the Office of the Women’s Affairs Officer of Madaripur, Umme Habiba, Deputy Director of the Department of Youth Development, Social Service Officer Md. Jabed Hossain, Principal of TTC Md. Sanjid Shahriar, Manager of Probasi Kalyan Bank Md. Shariful Haque, Advocate MD of Madaripur Judge Court Enamul Haque.

In addition, Jordan-returned migrant Adhamya Nari Puraskar winner Rozina Begum and artist Akhter told the present discussants how they turned around after receiving psychosocial, social and economic reintegration services under the Protyasha-2 project after being cheated and returning.

The ‘Improved Sustainable Reintegration of Bangladeshi Returnee Migrants (Pratyasha-2)’ project, jointly funded by the European Union and BRAC, is being implemented. The workshop was conducted by Shahina Akhter, Psychosocial Counselor, Madaripur.

The keynote address was presented by Tanzina Sultana Sejunti, Senior Officer, BRAC Migration Program Head Office. The objective of the workshop was highlighted by Debananda Mondal, Regional MRSC Coordinator.
