National Journalists Association Teknaf Upazila Committee President arrested with Yaba
Real professional journalists are facing trouble due to the misdeeds of some alleged and fake journalists in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
There have been allegations of involvement in various crimes including drugs using the identity of journalists for a long time. In continuation of this, a so-called journalist was arrested with drugs in the capital.
Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) has arrested Md. Ziabul Haque, President of the National Journalists Association Teknaf Upazila Committee and Cox’s Bazar district correspondent of the Daily Bangladesh Samachar, with 3,000 pieces of Yaba.
The arrested Ziabul Haque (42) is a resident of Hoaykyang Union of Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar district. According to police sources, he was involved in drug trafficking for a long time under the guise of a journalist.
An official of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch (DB) Gulshan division said that he was arrested during a raid in the Matuail area under Jatrabari police station at around 6:10 am on Monday (January 5). A large quantity of Yaba was recovered from him during the raid.
The DB also said that he was wearing a jacket with the word ‘Press’ written on it at the time.
DB sources also said that important information related to drug trafficking was found during the initial interrogation. The process of taking legal action against him is underway.
Meanwhile, local journalists say that the professional reputation of real journalists is being seriously tarnished due to some fake and amateur individuals.
They have demanded strict monitoring and action by the law enforcement agencies and the administration against those involved in crimes using the name of journalism.
