District Primary Education Officer Arrested with Bribe Money in Jashore
Jashore District Primary Education Officer Ashraful Alam has been caught red-handed while accepting bribes. A team of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Jashore Integrated District Office conducted a raid on the District Primary Education Office on Wednesday (January 7) afternoon and arrested him, recovering Tk 1 lakh 20 thousand from his room.
The raid, led by ACC Jashore Deputy Director Md. Salauddin and Assistant Director Md. Al Amin, was conducted in the wake of a long-standing complaint.
The complainant, Mohammad Nurunnabi, an assistant teacher at Basundia Khanpara Government Primary School, said that Ashraful Alam had been harassing him for three months on various pretexts to get his late wife Shirina Akhter’s pension file released.
At one stage, after taking a bribe of Tk 80 thousand in the first round, the money was demanded again. He alleged that he was threatened that his pension would not be released if he did not pay.
He has even been accused of reducing his wife’s basic salary in collusion with a Khulna divisional officer.
On Wednesday afternoon, when another 1 lakh 20 thousand taka was handed over to Ashraful Alam on the pretext of releasing the file, the ACC conducted a raid there based on a secret tip-off and arrested him red-handed.
Assistant Director of the ACC Jashore Integrated District Office Md. Al Amin said that the detained officer is being interrogated and preparations are underway to file a case against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
