Three arrested with Yaba in Fulchhari
Police have arrested three people with 65 pieces of Yaba tablets in a special operation in Fulchhari upazila of Gaibandha. A local Jubo Dal leader is among the arrested people.
The police conducted a raid on a tip-off late on Tuesday night while they were consuming Yaba in the Dakshin Kathur area of Udakhali union of the upazila. Later, 65 pieces of Yaba tablets were recovered from them during a search.
The arrested people are Mohiuddin alias Mohir Mia (40), son of Rabijal Haque of Dakshin Kathur area, Jyotish (35), son of deceased Dinesh of the same area, and Abdul Barek (45), son of Tajul Haji.
Police said that Mohir Mia is serving as the senior joint convener of Udakhali union Jubo Dal and has several cases against him.
Local residents alleged that Mohir Mia and a gang associated with him had been involved in the Yaba business in the area for a long time.
Locals said that drugs became easily available in the area due to their influence. They demanded more regular and vigorous police operations to control drugs.
In this regard, Upazila Jubo Dal Joint Convener Omar Faruk said that if any leader or worker of the organization is involved in drugs or criminal activities, organizational action will be taken against him.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Fulchhari Police Station Durul Hoda said that a case has been registered against the three arrested under the Narcotics Control Act. After the legal process, they will be sent to jail through the court. He said that the anti-drug operation to control drugs will continue regularly.
