Public awareness meeting held to mitigate human-elephant conflict in Fulchhari Range

A meeting and compensation distribution ceremony was held at the Fulchhari Range Office of Eidgaon Upazila on the initiative of the Cox’s Bazar North Forest Department to mitigate human-elephant conflict and increase public awareness about the conservation of wild elephants.
Mir Kamruzzaman Kabir, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Eidgaon Upazila, was present as the chief guest at the ceremony held on Tuesday (January 6) morning. Eidgaon Range Officer Ujjwal Hossain was present as the special guest.
Md. Rashik Ahsan, Assistant Conservator of Forests and Range Officer, Fulchhari Range, Cox’s Bazar North Forest Department, presided over the ceremony.
Government compensation checks were distributed among the victims of wildlife attacks at the ceremony.
At the same time, discussions were held on what to do to avoid human-elephant conflict, protecting the movement routes of wild elephants, stopping deforestation, and avoiding risky behavior in settlements.
In his speech as the chief guest, UNO Mir Kamruzzaman Kabir said, “To ensure the safety of both humans and wildlife, everyone must be aware of forest conservation.
In addition to increasing public awareness, it is possible to reduce human-elephant conflict through coordinated initiatives.” Senior officials of the Forest Department also spoke at the meeting.
They said that in addition to compensation programs, special programs will be strengthened in areas prone to human-elephant conflict in the future.
Project Implementation Officer, Youth Development Officer Eidgaon, various officials and employees of Fulchhari Range, local villagers, students, and compensated individuals and their family members were present at the event.
