Bangladesh’s Humanitarian Voice on the Global Stage New Muslim Muhammad Raj

From leaving Hinduism to embracing Islam from surviving a harsh chapter of life with patience and dignity to dedicating himself to humanitarian service New Muslim Muhammad Raj represents a rare journey shaped by resilience, faith and responsibility. What may seem extraordinary to many is, in reality the lived story of a man who turned personal transformation into sustained service for humanity.

Muhammad Raj serves as the Director General of the Hafezzi Charitable Society of Bangladesh (HCSB) a government-registered national humanitarian organization and the Director of International Affairs at SAARC Human Rights Foundation.
With the urgent humanitarian crises in Gaza (Palestine) and Sudan worsening by the day, he is currently visiting Egypt and Jordan with his team to coordinate and expand relief operations. This is his fourth visit to Egypt, undertaken specifically to strengthen field-level humanitarian engagement and ensure that assistance reaches the most vulnerable families.
Since the war began on 7 October 2023, Muhammad Raj and Team Hafezzi have remained actively involved in humanitarian relief efforts for Gaza. Their work spans the Gaza Strip and Palestinian refugee communities in Egypt delivering critical support including food distribution safe drinking water, medical assistance and cash support. Recently, their humanitarian programming has also expanded into Sudan, where conflict-affected communities continue to face extreme hardship.
A significant milestone of these initiatives was the international coverage by Al Jazeera, which broadcast Team Hafezzi’s relief activities from Gaza’s devastated areas. Through Muhammad Raj’s efforts the red and green flag of Bangladesh was visibly present in scenes of humanitarian solidarity seen among oppressed families in Gaza and referenced in connection with the sacred city of Jerusalem reflecting Bangladesh’s moral presence in global humanitarian response. These activities have also been reported across leading national newspapers in Bangladesh.
During his ongoing mission, Muhammad Raj has held a series of strategic meetings in Cairo aimed at broadening the reach coordination, and sustainability of humanitarian operations. These engagements include meetings with:
H.E. Diab Al-Louh, the influential Palestinian Ambassador representing the Arab world and Africa The Ambassador of Sudan
Dr. Amal Emam- Executive Director of the Egyptian Red Crescent Society The Acting Ambassador of Palestine in Jordan
Mr. Mohamed Mamdouh, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Youth Council (EYC) And Ms. Zian Head of Palestine’s Humanitarian Department in Egypt.
In these meetings the dignitaries expressed strong appreciation for the humanitarian initiatives led by Muhammad Raj and Team Hafezzi and conveyed their commitment to continued support and cooperation.
Alongside international operations, Muhammad Raj’s organization has become a consistent source of relief and hope for vulnerable communities across Bangladesh. Under his leadership HCSB regularly supports life saving medical treatment for underprivileged patients provides comprehensive assistance to new Muslims works on employment generation for unemployed youth installs tube wells establishes maktabs and schools distributes winter clothing organizes Ramadan food markets and delivers Eid gifts to struggling families restoring dignity and stability where hardship is routine.
In recognition of his humanitarian contributions, Muhammad Raj has received several national and international honors, including the International Peace Award 2024 in Bangladesh an award presented by the Ambassador of Bangladesh in Cairo (2024) and the “Nepal–Bangladesh International Excellence Award” in Kathmandu, conferred by Mr. Bardi Prasad Pandey, Nepal’s Minister of Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation.
Despite recognition at multiple levels Muhammad Raj remains personally humble while being firm and disciplined in values and action. He maintains close adherence to the guidance of leading Islamic scholars in Bangladesh, and his organization operates under scholarly supervision ensuring sincerity transparency and ethical accountability in humanitarian service.
