Netrakona-5 Jamaat candidate’s nomination cancelled
Due to complications related to the case in Netrakona-5 (Purbadhala) constituency, the District Returning Officer Md. Saifur Rahman has announced the cancellation of the nomination paper of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Professor Masum Mustafa. The decision was taken after the scrutiny of the nomination papers on Sunday (January 4).
The Returning Officer said that Professor Masum Mustafa had given incorrect information about the verdict of a case while submitting his nomination paper.
According to the Election Act, if any information given in the nomination paper is incorrect or misleading, it is considered invalid. That is why his nomination paper has been cancelled.
He also said that, however, there is an opportunity to appeal against this decision according to the Election Act.
As a result, although Professor Masum Mustafa’s nomination paper is considered invalid for the time being, the matter can be challenged through subsequent legal proceedings.
In this regard, Professor Masum Mustafa said, “My nomination has been canceled due to a minor informational error.
However, this error is not intentional. I will start the appeal process to restore the validity of the nomination from tomorrow. I hope, InshaAllah willing, I will restore the validity of my nomination.”
