The police have recovered the body of a youth with his throat slit in Kendua in the district. The incident took place in the Vidyaballabh area of ​​Garadoba Union Parishad in Kendua Upazila late on Friday (January 2).
The deceased is Ripon Mia (26), son of the deceased Moula Mia of Kalenga village in Garadoba Union of the upazila.
According to locals and police, the gang of thieves, including Ripon Mia, climbed an electricity pole located in an empty place in Vidyaballabh area of ​​Garadoba Union at night and tried to remove the transformer.
At that time, Ripon Mia was electrocuted while cutting the chain and lock attached to the transformer.
He fell down from the top after being electrocuted and was injured on the spot.
Later, in the last part of the night, other members of the gang of thieves dragged the injured body some distance away and slit his throat and fled. It is learnt that both his hands were also burnt in the fire.
On Saturday (January 3) morning, passersby saw the body with its throat slit and both hands burnt and informed the locals. Later, upon receiving the information, the police reached the spot and recovered the body.
Locals also said that they complained that the theft of electrical equipment in the area increases with the onset of winter.
Officer-in-charge of Kendua Police Station Mehedi Maksud said, “We believe that Ripon Mia was electrocuted while stealing a transformer and fell down. Later, his accomplices slit his throat and killed him and fled. Both his hands were also burnt.
Preparations are underway to send his body to Netrokona Sadar Hospital for an autopsy. The matter will be investigated and legal action will be taken.”
