President has issued the ‘Smoking and Tobacco Products (Control) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025’, providing for a maximum fine of Tk 5,000 for selling cigarettes or tobacco around educational institutions, hospitals, clinics, sports venues and children’s parks.

Ordinance was issued by the Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Law Ministry on Tuesday (December 30) night.

Ordinance was issued by amending the Smoking and Tobacco Products (Control) Act of 2005.

Ordinance states that no person shall sell or cause to be sold tobacco and tobacco products within 100 meters of the boundaries of educational institutions, hospitals, clinics, sports venues and children’s parks.

Government or local government institutions may increase the extent of this boundary by issuing general or special orders from time to time, and the ordinance states that.

It also states that any person who violates this provision will face a maximum fine of five thousand taka. The punishment will be doubled if the offense is committed a second time or repeatedly.
