Blue Carbon Environment Pilot Project Meeting held in Satkhira on Climate Change

A two-year pilot project learning and sharing meeting titled “Blue Carbon” was held in the hall of Shyamnagar Upazila of Satkhira. The meeting was organized to highlight the progress, achievements, lessons learned and limitations of the project among the stakeholders as the project activities have reached the final stage and to receive valuable recommendations for the future.

Shyamnagar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shamsuzzahan Kanak was present as the chief guest in the meeting. Leaders Chairman Bir Muktijoddha Master Md. Nazrul Islam was present as the chairman. Officials of various government departments of Shyamnagar Upazila, representatives of various NGOs, journalists, project beneficiaries and Leaders officials were present as special guests. The meeting was moderated by Leaders Director (Program) A. B. M. Zakaria.

The chief guest Upazila Nirbahi Officer said in his speech, “Securing The Blue Carbon Project has played an important role in preserving the coastal environment and protecting biodiversity. Along with government initiatives, the coordinated efforts of NGOs and local people can ensure sustainable development. The lessons learned from this project will be helpful in future planning.”

In his speech, the president, freedom fighter Master Md. Nazrul Islam said, “Blue Carbon Conservation in coastal areas is a timely and effective initiative to combat the effects of climate change. Through this project, the awareness of the local community has increased and their participation in environmental conservation has been ensured. Such initiatives need to be expanded in the future as well.

At the end of the meeting, the opinions and recommendations of the participants were received and an open discussion was held on the overall activities of the project.
