​Police have arrested Abu Said, one of the accused in the murder case of cattle trader Khoka Mia in Fulchhari upazila of Gaibandha. He was arrested from Nawabganj Bazar area of ​​Katlamari in the upazila on Monday evening.
​Police and local sources said that the arrested Abu Said (45) is known as a ‘robber chief’ in the area. He was the treasurer of Gazaria Union Awami League. ​
Police said that Abu Said had been abusing his power and carrying out extortion, robbery and terrorist activities in the area for a long time.
There are several serious cases against him, including murder, theft, and torture of women and children.
After his arrest, he was handed over to the court and a remand application was filed.
​Phulchhari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Durul Hoda said, ‘This is a planned murder. Police are working to uncover the reasons behind the incident.
If the accused is questioned on remand, more important information about the murder will be available.
More accused may be arrested if necessary for the sake of investigation.’ Meanwhile, the news of Abu Said’s arrest has brought relief to the local residents.
Some locals, on condition of anonymity, said that Abu Said had established a reign of terror in the area by showing his power during the previous Awami League government. The common people used to stay nearby out of fear of him.
It is worth noting that in the early hours of November 5, cattle trader Khoka Mia was killed in Dakumari village of Jhanjhair in Gazaria union of Phulchhari upazila. The deceased Khoka Mia is the son of Rashid Sarkar of that village.
