Joint operation in Halda estuary and Karnaphuli river: illegal nets seized and destroyed
On Thursday, December 18, a special operation was conducted in Halda estuary and Karnaphuli river from noon to afternoon today under the joint initiative of Boalkhali Fisheries Department and Halda Temporary Naval Police. The operation was conducted by Upazila Fisheries Officer Mohammad Naeem Hasan.
Boalkhali Upazila Agriculture Officer Md. Shahanur Islam, Rural Development Officer Md. Zahir Uddin Bhuiyan, Halda Temporary Naval Police Chief SI Ramzan Ali and Sohel Rana, Assistant Abu Mohammad Noman and Guard Sumon Das were present in the operation.
During the operation, one char-gired net (about 900 meters) and three floating nets (total length about 1200 meters) were seized. The market value of these nets is about 75,000 taka. The seized nets were burned and destroyed in the presence of locals.
Upazila Fisheries Officer Mohammad Naeem Hasan said that such operations are very important for the conservation of river fish and prevention of illegal fishing.
He also said that regular operations will be conducted in the future to make people aware and conserve the river.
Through this initiative, the Boalkhali Fisheries Department and the Naval Police are trying to protect the river ecosystem and ensure the rights of local fishermen.
