BNP central leader Mahanagar and former MP freedom fighter Hasan Uddin Sarkar held a press conference demanding reconsideration of the nomination of BNP candidate for Gazipur-2 constituency.
The press conference was held at the Ahsan Ullah Sarkar Islamic Foundation campus in Tongi on Monday afternoon.
In a written statement, Hasan Uddin Sarkar said that the Election Commission had created a new constituency called Gazipur-6 constituency from Tongi, Gacha and Pubail areas of Gazipur.
But later the High Court ruled to cancel that constituency. As a result, Gazipur-2 constituency has returned to its previous status. Currently, the number of voters in this constituency is about 8 lakh.

Which has made the constituency one of the largest, complex and challenging parliamentary constituencies in the country. BNP’s nomination for Gazipur-2 constituency was given while Gazipur-6 constituency was still in force. The candidate nominated for this seat is from Kaultia area, which is located at the northernmost tip of this vast constituency and has only 73,738 voters. The majority of voters in Gazipur-2 constituency are located in Tongi, Gacha and Pubail police stations. The voters in the two police stations of Tongi are 3 lakh 73 thousand 659, and in Gacha and Pubail police stations 1 lakh 68 thousand 595. In addition, the number of voters in Sadar police station is 2 lakh 48 thousand 20. He said, our statement is not against any person, any fellow soldier or any nominated candidate.
This is a question of party interest. We respect the nominated candidate, believe in party discipline and unity.
He also said, I urge the BNP Acting Chairman, Secretary General and Central Nomination Board to fully consider the current voters and geographical reality of the reconstructed Gazipur-2 constituency.
The organizational opinions of Tongi, Gacha and Pubail areas should be listened to with importance. If necessary, the current nomination should be reconsidered or alternative candidates should be evaluated.
A candidate should be nominated who is capable of consolidating the maximum votes in this large, complex and competitive constituency and taking BNP to the path of victory.
Also present at the conference were Nationalist Workers Party (NSP) candidate Salahuddin Sarkar, former joint convener of Gazipur Metropolitan BNP Rakib Uddin Sarkar Pappu, former general secretary of Gazipur Metropolitan Jubo Dal Haji Jasim Uddin Bhat, former vice-president of Metropolitan BNP Afzal Hossain Kaiser, BNP leader Kazi Mahbubul Alam Golap, Sarkar Shahanur Islam Roni, Syed Akhtaruzzaman and others.
