The Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB) conducted a raid in the border area and seized foreign weapons and ammunition.
These weapons were recovered in a raid conducted on a tip-off in the area under the responsibility of Manoharpur BOP early Monday morning.
Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB) Commander Lieutenant Colonel Kazi Mustafizur Rahman told reporters at a press conference at 1:30 pm that after the shooting of Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi on December 12, special patrols, establishment of check posts and intelligence surveillance were intensified in the border and interior areas. At that time, information was received about a plan to illegally enter weapons through the Chapainawabganj border.

In continuation of this, a raid was conducted in the Gopalpur area, approximately one kilometer inside Bangladesh from the border.
During the raid, when two motorcyclists were signaled to stop, they quickly changed direction and fled. At that time, a bag that fell from their motorcycle was recovered.

Later, the bag was searched and 4 foreign pistols made in the United States, 9 magazines and 24 rounds of bullets wrapped in black polythene were seized. However, no one was arrested in the raid.

The CO of 53 BGB said that it is believed that an attempt is being made to illegally smuggle weapons and ammunition to create sabotage inside the country.

Strict surveillance and patrolling activities have been strengthened in the border area at all times to prevent such mischief.

It was also stated that the BGB will continue to perform its duties with professionalism in maintaining border security.
