Martyr Intellectuals Day celebrated in Gopalganj

The Gopalganj District Administration organized a wreath-laying ceremony at the Martyr Memorial built at the slaughterhouse adjacent to the “Joybangla” pond in the Sadar Upazila Parishad premises at Sunday (December 14).
On behalf of the Gopalganj District Administration, Deputy Commissioner and learned District Magistrate (Deputy Secretary) Md. Arif-uz-Zaman and on behalf of the District Police Administration, Superintendent of Police Md. Habibullah paid deep tribute to the martyrs by placing wreaths at the altar of the Martyr Memorial.
At this time, a well-equipped and alert team of the District Police gave an armed salute to all the martyrs.
Later, freedom fighters, district and upazila administration, district BNP leaders, district Udichi and various political and social organizations paid their deep respect by placing wreaths at the altar of the martyrs’ memorial.
Then, all the invitees stood and observed a minute’s silence and participated in special prayers and prayers for the forgiveness of the souls of all the martyrs.
Later, a discussion meeting was held in the hall room of the Sadar Upazila Parishad on the occasion of the celebration of Martyr Intellectuals’ Day.
In the meeting held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Md. Arif-uz-Zaman, the freedom fighters recalled the massacre that took place on December 14, 1971 and highlighted the significance of this day.
At that time, District Police Superintendent Md. Habibullah, District Council Chief Executive Officer Amit Deb Nath, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) SM Tarek Sultan, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Kaushik Ahmed, Nationalist Party (BNP) Gopalganj District Branch Convener Freedom fighter Rafiq Sharif, District Ansar VDP Commandant Mojibul Haque BVMS, Deputy Director of District Social Services Department, District Livestock Officer Dr. Gobinda Chandra Sardar, Asit Kumar Saha and various district and upazila level officials were present.
In addition, candles will be lit at the martyrs’ memorial of the ’71 massacre in the evening. Moreover, special prayers will be offered at all mosques, temples, churches, pagodas and other religious places of worship at convenient times to observe the Martyr Intellectuals’ Day, the organizing authorities said.
Meanwhile, Martyred Intellectuals Day-2025 was observed with due dignity in Muksudpur, Kashiani, Tungipara and Kotalipara upazilas of Gopalganj.
