Virgin freedom fighter and renowned educationist Professor Dr. M. A. Hashem Chowdhury has announced to contest the upcoming 13th National Parliament election as an independent MP candidate from Gazipur-4 (Kapasia) constituency.
On this occasion, a press conference was organized at Habibullah Smrani Iqbal Kuthir in Joydevpur on Saturday (December 13).
At the press conference, he remembered with deep respect the martyrs of the 1971 Liberation War and the July 2024 mass uprising and said that their sacrifice is the eternal inspiration for the formation of a democracy and a just state.
Introducing himself, he said that he is a former VP and GS of Jahangirnagar University, a PhD in Economics from the University of Helsinki, Finland, and has returned to Kapasia after teaching for 35 years.
He said that after the 2024 mass uprising, Shanta Kapasia is restless due to incidents such as murder, terrorism, violence against women, and land grabbing.
Since it is not possible to remain silent against these injustices, he has decided to participate in the election to stand by the people.
According to him, Gazipur-4 constituency is a holder of the traditional political culture of education, honesty, and patriotism, where only qualified and educated leadership has always been elected.
Explaining why he is an independent candidate by going beyond party nomination, he said that he believes in the ideals of BNP and martyred President Ziaur Rahman, but the interests of the people are supreme to him.
This decision is to rise above party interests and restore the continuity of good governance, education, and development.
As a vision for the next five years, he promised education and human resource development, modernization of healthcare, agriculture and environmental protection, development of communication infrastructure, youth employment, women empowerment, and development of tourism and historical sites.
He firmly stated that the combination of character, education and integrity is the basis of his leadership and that he will not bow down to the politics of money and muscle power.
He was accompanied by businessman Aftab Uddin Ahmed and journalists from various print and electronic media.
