tudents of Comilla University (CoU) staged a protest on Friday night condemning the armed attack on Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Manch and a potential independent candidate for Dhaka-8. They also prayed for his recovery.

Around 7:30 pm, students gathered at the university’s main gate, marched in protest, and chanted slogans demanding the arrest of the attackers and questioning the role of the administration and the interim government.

Speakers at the rally said that the attack on Hadi reflects growing insecurity despite the July uprising. They claimed that voices against injustice and “Indian hegemony” are being targeted and criticized the interim government for repeated failures to ensure public safety.

Student leaders and activists called for the immediate arrest of those responsible, warning that recurring attacks on political dissidents signal a serious threat to citizens’ security.

Md. Hannan Rahim, Convener of Inqilab Manch, CoU-unit, said, ‘Since August 5, India has been trying repeatedly to push the Awami League back into power. When they saw that even after the election schedule was announced the interim government was not giving space to the Awami League, Indian operatives and Awami loyalists began targeting our patriotic brothers the July fighters. After August 5, there have been several assassination attempts, but no justice. Had these incidents been properly investigated, we wouldn’t be witnessing the attack on Hadi Bhai today. The attackers must be brought under the law within the next 12 hours.’

Earlier on Friday around 2:25 pm, Hadi was shot and critically injured in Dhaka’s Bijoynagar area. He is currently in critical condition.
