A fish trader was attacked with a hammer in the old ferry ghat area of Alipur Fisheries Port in Patuakhali’s Mahipur police station.
Local fish trader Kamal Bepari (30) seriously injured in the attack on Monday (December 8) afternoon.
Locals rescued him in a seriously injured condition and first took him to Tulatul 20-bed hospital.
Later, when his condition deteriorated, he was admitted to Kalapara 50-bed hospital.
From there, after primary treatment, he was sent to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment.
According to eyewitness sources, Kamal Bepari was drinking tea at a tea shop adjacent to the ferry ghat around 4:30 pm.
Suddenly, local Abu Jafar, Hanif and Russell and a few others attacked him with iron rods and hammers.
Eyewitnesses said that the attack took place without any prior dispute. They claim that the attack was completely pre-planned. The injured Kamal Bepari said, I was sitting in a tea shop and drinking tea.
Suddenly, Abu Jafar, Hanif and Russell and some others came and attacked me with iron rods and hammers.
I have no previous enmity with them. It seems that they attacked me on someone’s instigation.
He is the owner of an establishment called ‘Kamal Fish’ in Alipur Fisheries.
Although attempts were made to contact the accused on mobile phones several times in this regard, no statement was received as their phones were switched off.
Dr. Polly Saha, the on-duty doctor at Kalapara 50-bed hospital, said that a person named Kamal Hossain came to the hospital in the evening, with serious injuries to his body, head and both legs.
He has been referred to Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment after completing primary treatment.
