International Day of Persons with Disabilities held in Durgapur, Netrakona
The 34th International Day of Persons with Disabilities and the 27th National Day of Persons with Disabilities were celebrated in Durgapur, Netrakona, in collaboration with the Upazila Administration and Social Services Department and organized by the non-governmental development organization Caritas. The day was celebrated with various events on Wednesday (December 3). On this occasion, a rally from the Upazila Parishad premises to various areas of the city ended at the Upazila Parishad auditorium under the chairmanship of DC Committee President Md. Nurul Islam and moderated by Upazila Academic Supervisor Muhammad Nasir Uddin, Upazila Executive Officer Afroza Afsana spoke as the chief guest.
Among others, Upazila Social Services Officer Masul Talukder, Project Implementation Officer Md. Zahurul Islam, Upazila Press Club President Tobarak Hossain Khokon, General Secretary Masum Billah, Former President of the Journalists’ Association Dilwar Hossain Talukder, Journalist Wali Hasan Talukder, Caritas Representative Polison Rangsa spoke about the significance of the day. The speakers said that the disabled are not our burden. They also have the right to live in the society. Disabled people should be involved in all socio-economic activities. It is the duty of every person to show compassion and cooperation towards them. At this time, they thanked Caritas for these arrangements. At the end of the discussion, UNO Afroza Afsana announced the provision of wheelchairs to the disabled.
