5 stolen motorcycles recovered in Noakhali, 4 arrested
Police have arrested 4 members of an inter-district motorcycle theft gang, including two brothers of a BNP leader, in a separate operation in Kabirhat, Noakhali. During this, 5 stolen motorcycles were recovered from them. Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Shahin Mia confirmed the matter on Wednesday (November 26) afternoon. Earlier, the police had arrested them in separate operations in different places of Ghoshbag Union of the upazila from Monday night to Tuesday evening.
The arrested are Zaker Hossain Sohag (32) and Mosharraf Hossain (28), sons of Abul Basar of Charalgi village and Ghoshbagh union of the upazila and younger brother of former general secretary of Ghoshbagh union BNP Abdur Rahim Babar. Md. Miraj alias Mehraj Hossain (20), son of Abdur Rahim of Lal Mia Chowkidar house of Ramballabpur village of the same union, Md. Nur Uddin alias Sagar (19), son of Cherajul Haque alias Siraj of Cherajul Haque house of Dakshin Jagdanand village.
Police and local sources said that on Monday night, based on a secret tip-off, the police conducted a raid on the house of Bhulu Dubai Ala in the west of Char Algi Bazar in Ghoshbag union of the upazila.
At that time, two members of the gang of thieves were arrested along with three stolen motorcycles. Later on Tuesday afternoon, police conducted a raid and arrested Mosharraf, the younger brother of former general secretary of the union BNP Abdur Rahim Babar, along with two stolen motorcycles. Police conducted another raid on the same day in the afternoon and arrested Babar’s other brother Zaker Hossain Sohag. Locals alleged that Babar’s brothers formed an inter-district motorcycle theft syndicate by using his political influence. Rejecting the allegations, former general secretary of Ghoshbagh union BNP Abdur Rahim Babar said, I have heard that they have been sent to jail. However, they cannot do anything illegal by using my influence. They act like them, I act very normally, and at the same time, I love the party and do politics. Kabirhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shahin Mia further said that 4 accused in two cases were shown arrested and handed over to the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The judge ordered them to be sent to prison. The five recovered motorcycles are in police custody.
