Serious irregularities have been alleged against a fertilizer dealer in Srikol Bazar of Sadullapur Union of Pabna Sadar Upazila.
There has been an inconsistency in the fertilizer stock allocated to farmers, which has created anger among local farmers.
According to local sources, there should be a total of 280 sacks of fertilizer for farmers. However, only 196 sacks of fertilizer were found in the dealer’s warehouse. The remaining 84 sacks were not accounted for, which has raised doubts and dissatisfaction among farmers.
When we spoke to B. S. Shariful Islam of the Upazila Agriculture Office in this regard, he said, “I will receive the fertilizer from the dealer for distribution in Srikol Bazar and supply it to the farmers.
But the dealer has given me only 196 sacks of fertilizer, although I was supposed to get 280 sacks.” He also said that the matter will be investigated and the concerned department will be informed to take necessary action. Local farmers have complained that it is necessary to investigate whether the allocated fertilizer is being sold secretly.
Many have also expressed fears that farming will be affected by the fertilizer shortage. The affected farmers have demanded that the administration and the agriculture department conduct a quick investigation and take action.
