A clash occurred between the law enforcement agencies and brick kiln workers and local people on the way to conduct a drive by the mobile court to demolish an illegal brick kiln in the Phaitong Paglir Aga area of ​​Lama in the Bandarban Hills. Upon receiving the news of the mobile court’s drive in the brick kiln, the brick kiln workers took up positions in the Pahartali area of ​​Ward No. 9 of Kakara Union in Chakaria, Cox’s Bazar from 8 am. On Thursday (November 20), when the mobile court team’s convoy reached the Pahartali area at 12 noon, the clash with the brick kiln workers began. Seven police and BGB members were injured in the chase and brick-throwing incident. A total of six vehicles, including the vehicles of the executive magistrate, police and BGB, were vandalized. Police said that eight workers of the brick kiln, including two Chhatra Dal leaders, have been arrested in this incident.
The administration has faced obstacles during the raids at the brick kiln for the past four days. The workers have informed that more than 50 people, including eight women and children, were injured in the clash with the law enforcement agencies. More than 20 of them are undergoing treatment in hospitals. Four people have even been arrested in this incident so far. Two Chhatra Dal leaders, Kakara Union Chhatra Dal member secretary Jamir Uddin (24) and member Arafat Hossain (20), were arrested for joining the movement with the workers and trying to normalize the situation. It is learned that the mobile court finally suspended their raid at 3 pm. The special operation conducted from the central office of the Department of Environment was led by Executive Magistrate Rezwan Ul Islam of the Department of Environment.
At that time, Alikadam Army Zone Deputy Commander Major Hafiz, Assistant Magistrate (Lama) Rubayet Ahmed, Lama Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Tofazzal Hossain were present. In addition, the army, police, BGB, fire service and the Department of Environment participated in the operation. Assistant Magistrate (Lama) Rubayet Ahmed told the Daily Morning Glory that the owners and workers of the brick kiln attacked the administration and law enforcement agencies. The vehicles of the Executive Magistrate and law enforcement agencies were vandalized. Many were injured in this.
