2-day strike in Rangamati to protest discrimination in the appointment of assistant teachers under the District Council
The anti-quota unity alliance in Rangamati has called for a 2-day strike under the banner of ordinary students and conscious citizens. The strike was called for 2 days in the morning and evening on Thursday and Friday (November 20 and 21) to protest the quota discrimination in the appointment of assistant teachers in primary schools under the Primary Education Department transferred to the Hill District Council. No vehicles will ply on roads and waterways during the 2-day strike. The strike was called from a press conference held at the Banarupastha Ajani Restaurant in the city at 3 pm on Wednesday (November 19). The anti-quota unity alliance leader Md. Rakib Hasan spoke at the press conference held. Hartal in Rangamati on November 20 and 21 to protest against quota discrimination in teacher recruitment All types of vehicle movement on roads and waterways will be closed during the hartal. However, emergency services will be exempt from the strike. Speakers at the press conference said that the district council announced the exam date on November 21 under its own law, ignoring the quota discrimination in the recruitment of primary assistant teachers under the Rangamati Hill District Council and the latest notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration regarding the quota. Which is against the existing law, the constitution and the policies announced by the interim government. When the notification issued by the Ministry of Public Administration in September last year was raised and the government decided to keep 7 percent quota and appoint the remaining 93 percent on the basis of merit, the chairman of the district council got angry and said that the council will be governed by its own law, not a notification of any ministry. The leaders of the organization alleged that even after the nationwide quota reform, the 70 percent tribal quota is still in force in the transferred divisions of the hill districts, which is completely unreasonable. At the same time, they also raised allegations of irregularities, nepotism and bribery in recruitment. They also mentioned that the vacancy and quota allocation were not clarified in the published recruitment notification as illegal. The amendment to the quota system of the Ministry of Public Administration states that in direct recruitment to government, semi-government, autonomous, semi-autonomous institutions, autonomous and statutory authorities and various corporations, there is a 93% merit-based quota, 5% for children of freedom fighters, martyred freedom fighters and brave soldiers, and 1% for physically challenged and third gender. If no eligible candidates are found in the prescribed quota, the vacant posts of the respective quota will have to be filled from the general merit list.
