Miscreants hurled two petrol bombs at the Maona-Sreepur branch of Grameen Bank in Sreepur, Gazipur. On receiving the information, the in-charge of Sreepur Police Station and Maona Police Camp visited the scene. The incident took place at the bank branch in Bartopa village at around 2 am on Saturday (November 15). Abdur Razzak, Area Manager of Grameen Bank in Sreepur, confirmed the matter. At that time, four other officials and employees were with him. At midnight, miscreants threw two petrol bombs inside and outside the bank’s boundary wall, causing a loud explosion.

Glass fragments were seen scattered inside and outside the boundary wall of Grameen Bank. Although no major accident occurred in the petrol bomb incident, part of the bank’s signboard was burnt. They are in a state of panic after the incident. He also said that Abdur Razzak said that the miscreants had left something resembling a petrol bomb outside the boundary wall. We did not suffer any damage. Our office works until 10 or 11 pm. Then the security guard fell asleep. Our higher authorities have been informed about the matter. They have not yet visited the scene. Further steps will be taken as per the instructions and decisions of the higher authorities. Although the bank’s operations are currently normal, there is panic among the officers and employees. Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Abdul Barik said that someone or someone may have burst crackers outside the gate of Grameen Bank’s Baratopa branch. No complaint has been filed on their behalf yet. The in-charge of the Mauna Police Camp and I have visited the scene. Further legal action will be taken after discussing the incident with the higher authorities. He also claimed that due to the strong police patrol, the miscreants could not cause any major sabotage. A bottle has been recovered from the scene. An investigation will be conducted to find out who carried out the attack and those involved in the incident will be identified and brought to justice as soon as possible.
