A grand procession, cake cutting, discussion and cultural programs were held in Netrakona to celebrate the 77th birthday of renowned literary figure, renowned filmmaker and eminent playwright Dr. Humayun Ahmed. On Thursday (November 13), ‘Himu Pathak Adda’ organized these programs at 11 am. On the occasion of Humayun Ahmed’s 77th birthday, in his own district Netrakona, the characters created by him, boys dressed as Himu in yellow Punjabi and girls dressed as Rupa, gathered at the local Shaheed Minar in blue sarees. A colorful grand procession started from Shaheed Minar at 11 am. The joyous procession was led by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdullah Al Mahmud Zaman, Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud, Additional District Magistrate Sukhmoy Sarkar and former vice-president of the District Press Club, freedom fighter Haider Jahan Chowdhury. The participants in the joyous procession danced and sang along to popular songs used in various plays and movies of Humayun Ahmed and circled various important roads of the district town before arriving at the Moktar Para Mukta Mancha and cutting the 77th birthday cake. Later, at the Nazrul Mancha of the District Shilpakala Academy, hosted by Alpana Begum, the founding director of Himu Pathak Adda, Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mahmud Zaman spoke as the chief guest in a discussion meeting. Superintendent of Police Mirza Sayem Mahmud spoke as the special guest. Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Abdullah Al Mahmud Zaman said that Humayun Ahmed was a bright star of Bengali literature. He has won the hearts and minds of the people of the country by producing plays and films in addition to Bengali literature. In his literary work, Himu Rupa created the character and attracted the new generation to a large extent. As a result, he was able to instill the habit of reading books among the new generation of boys and girls.
