Promotion Without Exam Sparks

A controversial promotion within Railway Security Force (RNB) under the Eastern Zone of Bangladesh Railway has triggered widespread debate and discontent. Inspector Abu Sufian has reportedly been elevated to the post of Chief Inspector without any formal examination or official order, raising serious questions about procedural transparency and administrative integrity.

According to sources within the Railway, the promotion criteria for the Chief Inspector post include a mandatory written exam and performance evaluation. However, those requirements were allegedly bypassed in Abu Sufian’s case. Insiders claim that despite the absence of an official order, Sufian has begun wearing the insignia of a Chief Inspector a clear violation of RNB regulations.

Further allegations suggest that under Abu Sufian’s supervision, various irregular activities have taken place in the CGPY area. These include reported cases of extortion through illegal occupation of railway land, oil pilferage, control over local truck stands, and unauthorized agricultural use of government property. A man named Dulal, described as a “cashier,” is alleged to be managing these operations on Sufian’s behalf. Some insiders claim that portions of the collected money are being shared with higher officials.

When contacted by journalists, Abu Sufian reacted angrily and refused to comment. “Do you even know who you’re calling? I have nothing to say. Contact my higher authority if you have questions,” he said before ending the call.

Chief Commandant (RNB East) Md. Ashabul Islam acknowledged the situation, saying, “Due to a shortage of manpower, he has been given additional responsibilities.” When asked about the badge issue, he added, “If someone is assigned duties verbally, they may wear the corresponding badge.”

However, according to government service regulations, no officer is permitted to use a higher-rank insignia without an official appointment order. Experts and administrative observers note that such actions are irregular and undermine institutional discipline.

Incident has sparked outrage within the Railway’s internal ranks. Employees and concerned citizens have expressed frustration, saying that irregular promotions and misuse of authority in state institutions threaten transparency and public trust. They urged the Railway authorities and local administration to launch a formal investigation and take appropriate measures to restore accountability within the system.
