Coast Guard raids arrest 19 fishermen, including illegal trawler and Thai net
In a special operation by the Bangladesh Coast Guard in the sea area adjacent to St. Martin’s, 19 fishermen, including an illegal artisanal trawling boat and banned Thai nets, have been arrested.
On Saturday (November 8, 2025) afternoon, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq gave this information in a press release.
He said that on Friday (November 7) at around 10 pm, based on secret information, a raid was conducted by the Coast Guard ship ‘Shyamol Bangla’ in the southwestern sea area of Chhera Island of St. Martin.
During the operation, an illegal artisanal trawling boat was seized.
Later, the boat was searched and 19 fishermen, including 1200 meters of banned Thai nets worth about 15 thousand taka, were arrested.
Lieutenant Commander Siam-ul-Haq said that further legal action is underway against the seized boats, nets and fishermen.
He added, “Such operations of the Coast Guard will continue in the future to conserve the country’s fisheries resources and protect marine biodiversity.”
