Chairman of Cooperative Industrial Traders Association sentenced to 4 years in prison in Bogura
A special court has sentenced Advocate Zahurul Islam, Chairman of Cooperative Industrial Traders Association of Bogura, to 4 years in prison for the crime of acquiring assets worth 2 crore 50 lakh taka beyond known income.
Judge Md. Ayez Uddin of the Anti-Corruption Special Court gave this verdict on Tuesday afternoon.
In addition, the learned judge also ordered the confiscation of 2 crore 47 lakh taka that was illegally acquired.
PP of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Mahmuda Khatun Sukhi confirmed the above information to journalists.
The convicted Advocate Zahurul Islam is a teacher and former acting principal of Taslim Uddin Tarafdar Degree College in Atapara area of Sonara, Gabtali, Bogura.
Although his home is in Kamarchatta village of Rameshwarpur union, he lives in a luxurious house in Jamil Nagar area of Bogura city.
However, family members have claimed that through a legal battle, Advocate Jarul Islam will be released and proven innocent.
