Tourist Police’s Unprecedented Success in One Year in Cox’s Bazar

The activities of the Tourist Police Cox’s Bazar Region in the last one year (from 02 February 2025 to 30 October 2025) to make the tourist city of Cox’s Bazar safe, orderly and tourist-friendly are showing remarkable success.
Under the dynamic leadership of Additional DIG Apel Mahmud, the Tourist Police has set a precedent not only in maintaining law and order, but also in humanitarian services and environmental protection. In the last nine months, 34 robbers, 43 floating criminals, 10 eve-teasers, and 3 drug dealers have been arrested in the Cox’s Bazar Region. 164 lost children, 15 living people, and 20 dead bodies have been recovered. In addition, 27 lost mobile phones have also been returned to their owners. A total of 175 CR cases were recorded in the past one year, out of which 127 were disposed of and 43 were still pending.
At the same time, 16 GR cases were filed, out of which 10 were disposed of (6 charge sheets, 4 FRT) and 6 are still under process.
Under the supervision of Additional DIG Apel Mahmud, the Tourist Police has done commendable work one after another. Among them, the stolen 10,500 taka and iPhone 16 Pro Max were recovered and returned to the tourist. The 5 accused involved confessed in the court under section 164, the lost bag of Russian tourist Miss Monica Kabir was recovered and returned in just 2 days, the lost camera and wallet were recovered and handed over to the owner, 17 cameras were seized and several cameramen were arrested in the tourist harassment incident. Moreover, to protect the beauty and environment of the tourist area, the Tourist Police conducted beach cleaning activities, provided bins and carried out an illegal expansion drive at the Mermaid Beach Resort. The police arrested 13 men and women in a drive to prevent anti-social activities in the Lighthouse area and discovered a tunnel. In addition, anti-social and health-threatening activities were stopped by conducting raids at the spa center, poetry square and mobile fish shops. The Tourist Police rescued many people, including blind children, lost lovers, and women who were victims of fraud, and returned them to their families. The administration even issued a warning message by arresting a hotel employee on the charge of giving tubewell water instead of mineral water to a German citizen.
At the same time, a Tourist Police Service Center was established and 10 wheelchairs were provided to tourists.
Under the strategic guidance of Additional DIG Apel Mahmud, the Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police has become one of the most efficient and humane police units in the country.
The Cox’s Bazar Tourism Business Society and the Kalatali Marine Drive Hotel Resort Owners Association also presented certificates and honors to the Tourist Police, which bear recognition of their public service activities. Moreover, two female members of the Tourist Police won the “Women Tourism Leader Award”, which is a shining example of female leadership.
The success of the Tourist Police Cox’s Bazar Region in terms of security, law and order and humanitarian services in this tourism-dependent region is commendable.
Under the skillful leadership of Additional DIG Apel Mahmud, Cox’s Bazar is emerging as a safe tourist destination not only of the country but also of international standard.
