Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) celebrates 77th founding anniversary
The Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) celebrated its 77th founding anniversary in a continuation of pride, tradition and success. This battalion, which started its journey from Khagdahar, Mymensingh on October 27, 1948, is today steadfastly serving as the “alert border guard” on the southernmost border of the country. This battalion has a glorious contribution to the history of protecting the independence and sovereignty of Bangladesh. In the history of this unit, which is written with the sacrifice of 34 brave soldiers, many warriors have received the ‘Bir Pratik’. The unit achieved special recognition by winning the “Bangladesh Rifles Standard Medal” in 1999. Since assuming charge in Teknaf area on November 15, 2015, the battalion has been showing outstanding success in border security, anti-narcotics operations and preventing human trafficking. Teknaf Battalion, as the first and only unit in the history of BGB, has established a state-of-the-art surveillance system to strengthen border security, through which 30 kilometers of coastline and 23 kilometers of sea border are being controlled. From October 1, 2024 to September 30, 2025, Teknaf Battalion has arrested 179 suspects and seized 4.206 kg of crystal meth ice, more than 5.7 million Yaba tablets, 2.08 kg of gold, and various domestic and foreign weapons and ammunition. The estimated value of drugs and contraband recovered in these operations is More than 218 crore taka. In addition, the battalion has ensured the safe repatriation and disarmament of 34 security force members in the unstable situation in Myanmar. As part of humanitarian assistance, 387 abducted victims have been rescued in the past year, 87 human traffickers have been arrested, and 124 Bangladeshi fishermen, 18 boats, and a large amount of fishing nets have been brought back from the Arakan Army. Teknaf Battalion is also at the forefront of humanitarian activities—in the past year, 440 people have been distributed winter clothes, 1,097 people have been provided medical care through 8 medical camps, and about 1,000 helpless people have been provided financial assistance. On the occasion of its founding anniversary, Teknaf Battalion Commander Lt. Colonel Ashikur Rahman, PSC said, “As long as the red-green flag flies, we will remain the impenetrable wall of the southernmost border of the country. I express my deep respect and gratitude to those whose sacrifice and hard work have made the Teknaf Battalion where it is today. We have taken an oath – we will not hesitate to sacrifice our lives if necessary to protect the integrity and sovereignty of the country.” He also said that the BGB has become a symbol of pride and trust of the nation in border security, drug prevention and humanitarian service.
