A human chain was held in Nayakata village of Dhulasar union of Mohipur police station in Patuakhali to protest against land grabbing and harassment of common people by land grabber Advocate Anwar Hossain. The human chain was organized by the general public of Chonkhola and Tarikata areas on Tuesday (October 21) morning. After the human chain, a protest march was held. About two hundred victims participated in it. The speakers in the human chain alleged that Upazila Krishak League President Advocate Anwar Hossain has been embezzling common people’s land for 17 years.
He is harassing locals by making fake documents and threatening them with false cases. The speakers also alleged that he has already filed more than 30 false cases related to extortion and land grabbing. They allege that he is doing all this under the pressure of the Awami League government. Victim Harun Mridha said, our 5 acres of land in Harendpur Mouza has been in occupation for many generations. But Anwar’s lawyer wants to take that land in his name by showing fake documents. After that, he is harassing us by filing one false case after another. I have become destitute, I can’t take it anymore. I have gone crazy running around the courthouse. We want to escape from Anwar’s false case. Another victim, Ibrahim Hossain, said, we are poor people, we have become destitute by roaming around in courts and courts. Still, we do not get justice. We demand strict action from the administration against him. Victim Miraj Hossain said, a few days ago, he caught fish from his own enclosure and filed a false case in our name. He has filed 25-30 cases before this. We have become destitute.
We are fed up with his torture, we want justice. It is learned that after the death of Moklesur Rahman, his heirs—Dulal, Zafar, Jamal, Khalil, Khaleda, Parveen, Kulsum, Rabeya, Safia, Zaheda, Sohag and Morsheda—are the legal owners of about 5 acres of land in Baultali Mouza. In addition, the owners of 5 acres of land in Harendpur Mouza are members of the Yusuf Munshi family—Idris, Mariam, Tahmina, Moksena, Nasima, Asma and Harun Mridha. It is alleged that Advocate Anwar is trying to record these lands in his own name by forging the accounts and records. Cases related to accounts numbers 32/39, 3164, 3177 to 3186 of Baultali Mouza and accounts numbers 702-3 of Harendpur Mouza are currently pending in court. Locals said that he has implicated about 30 people including Khalil, Jahangir, Idris in false cases for speaking against Anwar. Recently, he filed an extortion case of 3 million taka in the name of locals on the charge of catching fish in his enclosure. It has been alleged that he did not even spare his uncle. When contacted on the mobile phone of Advocate Anwar Hossain to inquire about this, he said, “I am in court now.” Then he disconnected the connection. The speakers in the human chain strongly demanded that the administration conduct a speedy investigation and take legal action against the land grabber Advocate Anwar.
