70,000 pieces of yaba recovered in Ukhia
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has recovered a huge quantity of Yaba tablets in a special separate anti-drug operation in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. The operation conducted by Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) seized 70,000 pieces of ownerless Yaba.
On behalf of the BGB, Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. Mohammad Jasim Uddin said that on Monday (October 13) at around 8:45 pm, a special patrol team of Palangkhali BOP was stationed next to a paddy field at a place called Katakhal Mizaner Gher, approximately 02 km southeast of the border pillar BD-19, approximately 01 km east of the BOP inside Bangladesh.
At approximately 20:45 hrs, the patrol team saw a person coming from Myanmar through the paddy field and challenged him, who threw a potala in his hand and fled into Myanmar via the Naf River.
Later, a total of 30,000 (thirty thousand) pieces of blue-colored Yaba tablets in khaki paper wrapped in colored cloth were recovered from the said place.
Also, at approximately 2 am on Tuesday (October 14), the radar installed at the Hnila BOP showed that approximately 800 yards northeast of the border pillar BRM-12, which is approximately 2 km southeast of the BOP, approximately 2 people from Myanmar were entering Bangladesh from Bangladesh towards the Jaliapara Switch Gate. Immediately, a special patrol team of the BOP set up a trap in the Jaliapara Switch Gate area.
At approximately 02:00 hours, a person approached the switch gate and the patrol challenged him, and the smuggler threw the black plastic polybag in his hand and jumped into the Naf River and fled.
Later, a total of 40,000 (forty thousand) pieces of blue-colored airtight Yaba tablets in black plastic polybags were recovered from the said place.
Lieutenant Colonel Jasim Uddin further said that intelligence surveillance has been increased to identify the fugitive drug smugglers and bring them under the law.
The process of handing over the recovered Yaba tablets to Ukhia and Teknaf Model Police Stations is underway.
Meanwhile, the BGB is not only in border guarding, but also in preventing smuggling and drugs. Such operations will continue in the future as well.” It is worth noting that the Ukhia Battalion (64 BGB), which is responsible for the Ramu sector of Cox’s Bazar region, has been achieving success in maintaining border security and suppressing various illegal activities, including drugs, for a long time.
