A mosque imam held a press conference demanding the return of his purchased land in Tungipara, Gopalganj. Md. Azizul Haque Molla, a resident of Daudkandi Paschimpara in the upazila and Imam of Sheikh Zahir Uddin Jame Mosque in Sriramkandi Uttarpara, held the press conference at the Tungipara Upazila Press Club at 11 am on Monday (October 13, 2025).
In a written statement at the press conference, Md. Azizul Haque Molla said that he is the son of Nazrul Haque Molla of Daudkandi Paschimpara area. In 2005, he purchased five and a quarter percent of the land in Khatian No. 145 and Plot No. 615 of Gowhardanga Mouza from Surat Ali Sheikh, Hafez Ali, Arab Ali and their mother Khatun Bibi through a mortgage agreement. After the agreement, the sellers gave him possession of the land. Then he built a house on the land and started living there and planted various fruit and forest trees. A few days later, when he wanted to complete the land registry, the sellers started delaying the document on various pretexts. He also said that even after selling the land from me, they started harassing me at various times and filed several cases to give up the land. Later, due to their harassment, I was forced to leave the place for a few days. Later, the government announced that those who have a mortgage agreement can complete the registry within the specified time, otherwise it will be considered invalid. After this announcement, Azizul Haque appealed to the court.
The court accepted his case. But in the meantime, the sellers’ cousin Yad Ali filed a case against him over the same land. The case was dismissed in 2007. Later, when Azizul Haque appealed, the court ruled in his favor in 2010. But not stopping there, Yad Ali appealed again to the High Court, which was dismissed in 2015. Azizul Haque claimed that although his ownership was proven in multiple court rulings, the other party secretly filed a partition case and registered the land in their own name. Then, Imran Sheikh and Yad Ali of Gowhardanga village formed a cadre force with the help of some influential local people and forcibly occupied his land. Azizul Haque alleged that they forcibly built a boundary on the land and prevented him from entering. At the press conference, he said in a tearful voice, “I am a poor man, I lead prayers in the house of Allah as an imam of a mosque. I have no manpower or political identity.
Even though the court ruling is in my favor, I cannot go to my land.” Those who occupied my land by force of power are now threatening me. He also said that he has now approached the administration with a copy of the case verdict and necessary documents.
But he is extremely disappointed as he has not received any effective action yet. Azizul Haque Molla requested the current government, so that I can get my legally purchased land back.
I am not making any illegal demands. The court verdict is in my favor, but still I am not getting possession. I want the government to cooperate with me in this matter. At the end of the press conference, he requested the administration to quickly recover his land and return possession and take legal action against those involved in this incident.
