A procession, discussion meeting and exercise were held in Kumarkhali, Kushtia on the occasion of International Disaster Reduction Day.

A procession was taken out from Kumarkhali Upazila Parishad premises at 11:00 am on Monday to mark the day. The procession started from the Upazila Parishad premises and ended at the Durgapur Secondary School premises.

Later, an awareness exercise was held at the Durgapur Secondary School premises. In this, fire service personnel gave the public a basic idea of what to do in case of fire, how to immediately rescue in case of an earthquake, etc.

After the exercise, a discussion meeting was held. Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Mikhail Islam was the chief guest at the event presided over by Upazila Project Implementation Officer Sohrab Hossain. At that time, he presented the keynote speech on the occasion of International Disaster Reduction Day on the theme ‘Coordinated Initiatives, Prevent Disasters’.

Also present were Durgapur Secondary School Headmaster Maklesur Rahman, Upazila Accounts Officer Shamshul Huda, Kumarkhali Fire Service Station Master Indra Prasad Biswas and school students.
After the discussion, a drill on earthquake and fire was demonstrated.
