‘Illegal movement outside the camp’ in Teknaf: 171 Rohingyas detained

Border Guard Bangladesh-BGB has detained 171 Rohingyas who illegally left the camp in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar and sent them back to their respective camps.
On Tuesday (October 7), Teknaf Battalion 2 conducted searches at two permanent and temporary check posts in Damdamia and Nightongpara areas of BGB from 10 am to 5 pm.
During this time, 20 CNG, 17 Mahindra and 25 auto-rickshaws going from Teknaf to Cox’s Bazar were searched and a total of 171 Rohingyas, including 88 men, 50 women and 33 children, were detained.
The BGB said that after verifying the identities of the detained Rohingyas, they were handed over to the representatives of the concerned camp authorities with bonds.
BGB’s Teknaf Battalion Commander Lt. Colonel Ashiqur Rahman, PSC said, “Recently, it has been seen that members of various Rohingya camps in Ukhia and Teknaf are moving freely in Sadar and surrounding areas, crossing the designated boundaries under various pretexts.
Some are also engaging in criminal activities under the guise of professions like masons, carpenters or fishermen.” He added, “BGB is taking a strict stance to prevent unauthorized movement of Rohingyas.
Intelligence surveillance and operations will be further strengthened to maintain border security and law and order.
” The BGB said that strict vigilance is being maintained to ensure that the camp-based control system is not disrupted.
