World Habitat Day-2025 was celebrated in Gopalganj with a colorful rally and discussion meeting.
A huge rally was jointly organized by the Gopalganj District Administration and the District Public Works Department on Monday (October 6) at 9:30 am from in front of the District Administration Building under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner and learned District Magistrate (Joint Secretary) Muhammad Kamruzzaman with the spontaneous participation of people from all classes and professions.
The rally, under the theme of “Planned Development Stream, Response to Urban Problems”, circled the main roads of the district town and ended back in front of the District Administration Building.
Later, a discussion meeting was held in the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room “Swachhta” on the occasion of World Habitat Day.
The discussion meeting held under the chairmanship of Gopalganj District Public Works Department Executive Engineer Swarnendu Shekhar Mondal was attended as special guests by District Police Superintendent Md. Mizanur Rahman, Gopalganj Local Government Department Deputy Director (Deputy Secretary) and Municipal Administrator Bishwajit Kumar Pal, Gopalganj District Agricultural Extension Department Deputy Director Dr. Md. Mamunur Rahman, Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital Superintendent Dr. Jeebitesh Biswas, NDC Aniruddha Deb Roy, Gopalganj Fire Service and Civil Defense Deputy Assistant Director Shiplu Ahmed, Gopalganj Press Club President BM Zubair Hossain, District BNP Convening Committee Member Adv. Taufiqul Islam, female entrepreneur Anima Sarkar, Sub-Divisional Engineer Civil (Civil) Sameer Kumar Kundu, Sub-Divisional Engineer (E/M) Tanmoy Karmakar, Deputy Assistant Engineer Kayes Mahmud, Jahangir Hossain, Rafiqul Islam, Tauhidul Islam, Senior Accounts Assistant Raiz Ahmed, Office Assistant Aminul Islam, Monirul Islam, government officials from various departments, journalists, contractors, various professionals and well-wishers were present.
Chief guest Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Kamruzzaman said at the discussion meeting, “Planned urbanization is one of the foundations of sustainable development of a country.

Special guest Superintendent of Police Md. Mizanur Rahman said in his speech, “A well-organized traffic system, civil discipline and awareness are very important to build a beautiful and safe city.
Maintaining law and order is also closely related to urban development.
If we all become aware, it is possible to transform Gopalganj into a safe and modern city.
The Deputy Director (Deputy Secretary) of the Local Government Department and Gopalganj Municipal Administrator Biswajit Kumar Pal also spoke as a special guest at the meeting.
In light of the theme of the day, Swarnendu Shekhar Mandal, Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, presented a power point presentation.
At this time, he said that planned urbanization, sustainable infrastructure and environmentally friendly development are the key to building safe and livable cities.
It is worth noting that the United Nations decided to celebrate World Habitat Day in 1985 and it has been celebrated worldwide since 1986.
