A march was organized in Lalmonirhat and a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government through the Deputy Commissioner, demanding early implementation of Teesta Master Plan, fair share of Teesta River and protection of the river.‎
‎On Sunday (October 5) afternoon, the leaders of the Teesta River Protection Movement submitted a memorandum to the Chief Advisor of the Interim Government through the Deputy Commissioner of Lalmonirhat.‎

The march ended at the office of the Deputy Commissioner after circumambulating the main roads of the city.‎
‎The memorandum states that the Teesta River is an important part of the life and livelihood of the people of northern Bangladesh.
But for a long time, the river has become almost a dead canal due to the unilateral withdrawal of water by India.
As a result, farmers are facing huge losses in cultivation due to water shortages during the Rabi season, severe water shortages occur during the dry season, and the vast population of the Teesta basin is being affected by severe floods during the monsoon.
‎The movement said that the Teesta Agreement between Bangladesh and India must be implemented immediately to save the Teesta River.
It is urgent for the government to take urgent initiatives to protect the agriculture, economy and environment of the northern region by dredging the river, protecting its banks, developing the irrigation system and implementing the modern Teesta project.
‎The memorandum also states that the work of re-dredging the river and preserving the river banks must be started immediately under the Teesta Master Plan.
A Teesta Management Board must be formed with the local people and farmers. An agreement with India on water sharing must be concluded quickly.
Effective steps must be taken to stop river encroachment, sand mining and pollution.
‎The leaders of the Teesta River Protection Movement said, “Testa is not just a river, it is the lifeblood of the people of the northern region.”
Saving this river means saving the lives of millions of people, agriculture and the environment.
‎At that time, coordinator AKM Mominul Haque, ABM Faruk Siddique, Afzal Hossain, Sayedul Islam Patwari Saju and other members of the organization were present on behalf of the movement pokesperson.
