Locals have formed a human chain in Ratanpur area of ​​Oriya Union in Fulchhari upazila of Gaibandha demanding protection of homes and agricultural land from erosion of Brahmaputra River. The human chain was held on the banks of the river on the initiative of the erosion-affected locals on Wednesday afternoon. In addition to hundreds of affected people, leaders of local political and social organizations participated in the hour-long program. Gaibandha District Jamaat Nayeb-e-Ameer and Gaibandha-5 MP candidate Freedom fighter Abdul Wares, Fulchhari Upazila Jamaat Ameer Principal Maulana Sirajul Islam Akand, Upazila Jamaat Secretary Maulana Anisur Rahman, Co-Secretary Maulana Abul Khair, local UP member Saydar Rahman, social worker Majnur Rashid, BNP leader Faruk Mia and others spoke at the program. The speakers said that for the past month, houses and agricultural land have been disappearing into the riverbed due to continuous river erosion in an area of ​​about three kilometers in the villages of Kokaimari, Beparipara, Akandpara, Jolapara and Bhatiapara of Odia Union. Hundreds of families and acres of cropland are under threat. At that time, they complained that officials of the Water Development Board had inspected the erosion-affected areas but had not yet taken any effective measures to prevent them. The speakers demanded immediate and urgent temporary measures and long-term permanent prevention projects.
