The joy of Durga Puja is being spoiled by broken roads. Therefore, before the puja, Hindu devotees have demanded the repair of the road from Bahera in Debhata upazila to Gazirhat on the Satkhira-Kaliganj highway. They have claimed that the road needs immediate repair to visit the idols and travel from one place to another during the upcoming Durga Puja. It is learned that the Satkhira-Shyamnagar road has been damaged and unusable in recent times. The carpeting of the road has come off, creating numerous potholes. Due to this, commuters on this road are having to suffer while traveling. However, according to the information of the concerned department, about 582 crore taka has been allocated for this large project of road repair and expansion with a total length of 62.325 kilometers. In which the road will be expanded from Laboni intersection to Bankal check post, from Bankal check post to Parulia Gorur Hat, from Parulia to Hadipur, from Nalta to Hadipur to Kaliganj Fultala, from Kaliganj Fultala to Shyamnagar Mohsin College, from Shyamnagar Mohsin College to Bhetkhali. The work order of the project states that the work must be completed by June 30, 2026. Although the total duration of the project is five years, three years have already passed. But the contractor has stated that he could not start the work due to various reasons including rain. However, there is a demand to repair the places where the road has become extremely potholed before the upcoming Durga Puja and make them suitable for movement. This will allow Hindu religious festivals to be celebrated with joy. Otherwise, there will be no end to accidents and suffering on the road. Even the atmosphere of Hindu religious festivals is fading on the broken road. Nityananda Ghosh of Bahera, Anup Das of Kuliya, Palash Mandal of Parulia, Sankar Swarnakar of Sakhipur, Sarat Chandra Ghosh of Gazirhat and many others said that Durga Puja is a big festival of Hinduism. We have extensive arrangements around this puja. Especially, various rituals are held during the 5 days of puja. People of different ages go to visit relatives’ houses and visit idols in mandapams on Sashti, Saptami, Ashtami and Navami. But our main road has become so bad that it is unfit for movement. Movement on the broken road is very risky and painful. Therefore, if the concerned department repairs the road from Bahera to Gazirhat before the puja, then our festival will be complete. If there is no repair, there will be no end to our suffering. There will be no choice but to spend time at home. Therefore, we strongly demand that the road be repaired before the puja. Parulia UP Chairman Golam Faruk Babu said, “We have held several preparation meetings to make the puja more festive this year compared to last year. But we are aware of the suffering of the people due to the damage to the main road. The budget for expanding the road has been approved, and work will start soon. However, if a little renovation can be done before the puja, then people’s movement will be facilitated.” Debhata Police Station OC Golam Kibria Hasan said, “We are ready to provide maximum security during the puja. But it will be very difficult to move from one place to another quickly on the damaged road. It will be difficult to provide services quickly. Therefore, if the renovation can be done before the puja, it will be easy to bring the law and order situation under control.”
