A grazed theft has taken place at the site office of a contractor working in Chakaria Municipality. Machinery and goods worth more than Tk 5 lakh have been looted. The theft took place in the early hours of Sunday. It is learnt that the office of the ongoing work from Swapnapuri to Matamuhuri in Chakaria Municipality is at the house of Nabi Hossain in West Batakhali. On Sunday morning, between approximately 4:30 and 5 am, masked thieves opened the inside nut of the tin door and stole equipment worth more than Tk 5 lakh. Abubakar, engineer of the contractor company, and Abdul Khalek, director of the construction company, M/s Nipa Enterprise Ltd., said, Among the stolen goods, the gang of thieves looted goods worth an estimated 5-6 lakh taka, including electrical service wires worth 50,000 taka, 2 welding machines, 1 grinding machine, 1 motor, and iron rods. Nurul Alam (55), a janitor in charge of the construction work, said, “I have been the janitor for a long time. I also had the key to the office. I was sitting in front of the office on duty with a chair, but I still don’t know how they managed to open the nut inside the office lock and steal it.” A concerned local resident said, “I saw an unknown person carrying stolen goods on his head while going to the mosque for prayers this morning and told the doorman Nurul Alam, but he refused to take responsibility, saying it was not his responsibility to catch the thief.” Nearby locals said that this theft would never have been possible if the doorman was not involved. If he is questioned, information will come out. Haji Ismail Hossain, the owner of the contractor, M/s Nipa Enterprise Ltd., said that he will file a case with Chakaria Police Station in this regard.
