A total of 50,000 pieces of Yaba tablets have been recovered in a separate anti-drug operation by the 64th BGB Battalion in Ukhia, Cox’s Bazar. On Saturday (September 20) night, based on a secret information, a special patrol team of Palangkhali BOP conducted a raid in the Karangaghona Canal area near the border pillar BRM-18. At around 8:30 pm, BGB members saw a suspect coming from Myanmar and moved forward to stop him. However, the smuggler quickly fled. Later, during a search at the spot, 30,000 pieces of Yaba were recovered from a khaki-colored packet wrapped in a lungi. Despite a combing operation conducted throughout the night, the accused could not be caught. On the other hand, another special patrol team of Palangkhali BOP conducted a raid in the Anjumanpara water point area on Sunday (September 21) afternoon. At around 12:20 pm, two smugglers from Myanmar were challenged by BGB members, but they fled. Later, 20,000 yaba tablets in khaki-colored packets were recovered from there. No one was arrested in this incident either. Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Jasim Uddin, commander of the 64th Battalion in Ukhia, said that intelligence surveillance has been strengthened to identify and arrest the escaped smugglers. The process of handing over the recovered yaba to the Ukhia police station is underway. He also said, “The BGB is always working with a strict stance not only in border guarding, but also in preventing drugs and smuggling. Such raids will continue in the future as well.”
