The victim, Basudeb Mondal of the same village, has accused Babu Ranjanchandra Bala, the headmaster of Surjakanta Janakee Adarsha High School in Baniarchar, Jalirpar Union, Muksudpur Upazila, of financial irregularities and corruption of 5 lakh 50 thousand taka by luring him with a job. The victim, Basudeb Mandal, told reporters that on 05/11/2017, the school’s managing committee published the recruitment notice in national and local dailies for the post of Office Assistant cum Computer. I am a candidate for the said post. As per the decision of the committee, a 5-member recruitment board was formed and the date of the recruitment examination was fixed. On 27/04/2018, all the candidates including me appeared for the said post at the Government Veenapani Girls’ High School, Gopalganj. Then the recruitment board postponed the examination citing internal strife in the examination question paper. Later, he assured me that he would appoint me to the said post, in view of which I personally went to the residence of the headmaster Babu Ranjan Chandra Bala and paid 5 lakhs in cash and on the day of appointment, he sent Babu Subodh Mondal, a fourth class employee of the said school, to my house and took another 50 thousand taka from me. The headmaster took a total of 5 lakh 50 thousand taka from me for the job appointment. After taking money from me for the job, the headmaster has not been able to give me a job so far and has not returned my money. After that, when I repeatedly asked the headmaster Ranjan Chandra Bala for the money given to me for my job, he threatened me. I was helpless and informed various people in our village but they could not say anything due to fear of influential people of the then Awami League. Even the accused headmaster was the president of the ward of the then Awami League, using that influence, he harassed me in various ways. Then, unable to find any way, I went to school and asked him to return the money in front of all the teachers, but he did not listen to anything I said. When I went to school again after 3 days, the other teachers said that the headmaster was not present in the school. Then I requested the teachers and said that he was not picking my phone. Please give him a call and tell him that your creditor has come to school again for the money. Then a teacher called the headmaster with his phone and he said that you talked too much and threw him out of the school. Then, unable to find any way, I filed a written complaint with the Muksudpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer on 04/09/2025. Victim Basudev Mandal also said that I had an only daughter named Barsha Mondal. She left us without any financial treatment and left us for the next world. Due to lack of money, I could not get my daughter proper treatment. Now I am working as a carpenter without any other option. I am having a hard time earning a living for my grieving mother and my wife. If the headmaster Babu Ranjan Chandra Bala had returned my money, then I could have continued my life with my wife and grieving mother. Babu Subodh Mandal, a fourth-grade employee of Surjakanta Janakee Adarsha High School, told media persons that when I was asked to bring 50,000 taka from the headmaster Basudev Mondal, I brought 50,000 taka from his house and gave it to the headmaster, but I do not know for what purpose or what kind of money it was. Babu Suresh Mondal, a resident of the area, said, “We know that Headmaster Ranjan Chandra Bala took 5 lakh 50 thousand taka from Basudev Mondal for a job. We have arbitrated in the area several times, but we have not been able to return the money from him till date, because he was the then influential Awami League ward president. Headmaster Babu Ranjan Chandra Bala is a very smart person whose influence and intelligence always win over the locals. He also said that due to irregularities in filling out the school’s SSC exam form and embezzlement of school money, human chains were formed against him and news was published in various newspapers and magazines, but due to the influence of the then Awami League, justice did not come to him.” Local Kapil Hawladar told media personnel that we know about many misdeeds of this Headmaster Babu Ranjan Chandra Bala. He is involved in various irregularities in the school. When contacted on mobile phone, the accused headmaster Babu Ranjan Chandra Bala told our correspondent, “You can make news based on the information you have. I don’t need to make any statement.”
