Teachers, students and locals formed a human chain and protested against Abdul Hannan, an assistant teacher of Charpachuria Government Primary School in Mohammadpur Upazila of Magura, on Monday afternoon, on charges of sexually harassing several fifth-grade students of the school. After the human chain, the protest march circled the main road of Charpachuria Bazar and gathered again at the school premises. Shahinur Rahman, Md. Kausar Mia, school student Tanjum and assistant teacher Farhana Lipa spoke. It is known that Abdul Hannan, an assistant teacher of the school, had been behaving indecently with several fifth-grade students for a long time and sexually harassing them by touching their sensitive parts of their bodies. In this regard, on September 9, a complaint signed by 5 students who were victims of harassment by the teacher was submitted to the school principal and when no remedy was found, the parents of the family were informed about the matter, so on Monday afternoon, the villagers gathered and formed a human chain and protest march with the teacher and students. Later, they submitted a memorandum to the UNO and the education officer demanding exemplary punishment for the accused teacher. The accused assistant teacher Abdul Hannan denied all the allegations and said that a local group has been conspiring against me for a long time. Local Sajeeb Biswas said that the teacher’s character was already bad. Due to such problems, he was transferred from the previous school and sent to this school. The school’s headmaster Shahidur Rahman said that such behavior of a teacher with the school’s young students is very sad. I myself have also participated in the human chain. And I demand exemplary punishment for the teacher. Upazila Education Officer Subrata Kumar Saha said that the complaint has been received and the investigation is ongoing. UNO Shahinur Akhter said, “We have received the complaint. A three-member committee has also been formed to investigate. Appropriate action will be taken once the investigation is completed.”
